Last uni exam… EVAR!

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Yes, you’ve heard it, last ever exam. And strangely things get biblical.

Anyway lets set the scene, wake up per usual. I actually haven’t revised much, I did print stuff out but nothing really went in. But instead of moping around I just started attempting the past papers and sample questions. It gave me an idea of how the questions were going to be and all. Initially I was a bit overwhelmed with the stuff I dont know how to answer, but gradually with alot of googling I managed to find all the answers I needed. I slowly did this from 8-9. I also had my last bowl of lucky charms (don’t worry, one more bag left haha), saved it for today for good luck. Not to mention my lucky duck hehe.

Anyway enough of the revision. I start heading off to uni at the same time I left for Advanced Databases, weird thing was how the buses arrived bang on when I was at the bus stop so I got to uni pretty swiftly. I was a bit early so I decided to do some shopping and bought Jason his birthday present in advance. I then went to uni and revised a bit more in the staff canteen. Thing were starting to make sense (just a tad to be honest) most of the questions were answered at home so I was just reading stuff at the canteen, like always nothing really got in haha.

Decided to just head to the venue and do the exam… and yeah.. guess where I’m doing the exam? HERE!

Thats right, the exam gets biblical, a really nice end to uni haha. The final judgement! (I actually could go on!) But yeah, it was pretty weird doing the exam there, there was a different woman leading the exam, she was just as evil as the other one (whats with the evil old ladies haha), she actually reported a kid for leaving their revision notes on the floor (regardless of reading it). Hope he doesnt get a fail for that. But yeah, the exam itself was REALLY easy, the lecturer was lazy and simply pasted the old exam questions in the paper! Just slightly tweaked in some areas, it was godly to answer, all I had to do was write the stuff I only just answered this morning. It still involved 2 hours worth of pen scribbling but nonetheless, its a good thing when you can use up 2 hours and just constantly write.

One of the best moments is when a light started to shine on my desk, oh yeah, was quite surreal, most people experienced the light shining onto their desk, it almost felt like god going “you are the chosen one! now start coding your xhtml semantics and make sure its web accessible” haha. But yeah, I even starting assuming the praying position just to sort of thank the lord for such an easy exam haha.

Afterwards I went out with Alex to buy a Krispy Kreme to celebrate, it was all a bit of an anticlimax to be honest, didn’t feel like it ended right, but nonetheless we ate our Krispy Kremes, had a game of DS Lite and went our ways. Quite alot of silly girls kept trying to talk to us, chances are if we had replied we would have got some, what with their “easy virtue” haha. Kingston was filled with chavs, the emo kids hanged around the basement of the shopping centre (typical) and sat near the Krispy Kremes store (trying to get nice and fat?)

But yeah… feels weird and all but its allllll over.. now I can official start lounging about! Leeds tomorrow woo!

Day out with Jason (man date!)

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Yeah, I texted Jason asking him whether he was about yesterday but he wasnt, so to make up we arranged a quick day out on Saturday. Twas a nice and manly date haha. Met up at Wimbledon and literally went to Waterloo via super trains (not tube). Had a talk about DSLR cameras, seems like Jason is interested in getting into photography as he understands that compact cameras are quite limited at awkward conditions, mainly indoors etc. I told him about the whole divide of Nikon and Canon and how he had to make the right choice first time round.

We decided to go watch Magicians (rather than 28 Weeks Later, I’ve sort of gone off that due to lack of original talent hehe). But yeah, we decided to piss about in Funland before the film, we booked our tickets and all (I was still Student oh yeah) Jason bought the tickets (and I bought the food later on). We felt like adults haha. We then went to the arcades and played Point Blank, was an awesome game, Jason only discovered it today, he enjoyed it quite a bit :D and yeah at 50p a game you cant really go wrong.

After that we went to watch Magicians, shockingly we were the only ones there! Well later on another couple turned up, was slightly homo erotic one might say haha. But yeah, the movie was really good. Not as gross as Peep Show but still nonetheless good. Not really a Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz though, I dont think Magicians was that impressive as a movie when you compare it to the likes of Shaun of the Dead etc. Was fun seeing loads of Peep Show casts in the movie.

Afterwards we went to Yo Sushi for some Sushi, Jason was missing Japanese food from Japan so I thought it was the best place to go. We had chicken yakisoba straight away and then ate all sorts of japanese stuff, including Prawn Tempura! mmm, that was godly haha. We also had some fried chicken stuff, it was all nice and yummy. We had a very minimal amount of Sushi, just one prawn/tuna/salmon Nigri. We talked a lot about Japanese culture and it was pretty interesting. No singing sushi chef though :( Thats the only reason you spend £2 on 2 nigris instead of £1 at Wasabi’s. Ah well, the tempura was awesome enough to cover that.

Afterwards we went to loads of random shops in the rain haha, Jason told me to have a look a Abercrombie and Fitch, he explained how Rachel told him to go there and it was filled with women in Bikini’s and thumping techno music. OH HOW WAS HE WRONG! First thing we got was a topless man and thumping music. The paintings are homoerotic and everything else followed the same theme, immediately we left haha.

We also went to the Apple centre, I played some Logic Express, wasn’t too impressed by it to be honest, Xpand and Pro tools did the same job and all. But yeah, afterwards we went back to Wimbledon where we had a nice Frappe Latte and some hardcore DS battling (Elite Beat Agents). Jason met up with Rachel and yeah, she was too tired so they left and I went back home. Quite a nice day, I enjoyed the sushi in particular :) No photos sorry.

Murder in Monochrome and Yunioshi

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Right, after the Art Exhibition came a gig at Stockwell, that’s right, twas Murder in Monochrome. Michelle was going to the gig anyway so it was nice to know I had company hehe, I asked for guestlists and got an immediate reply from Kris saying its ok. Michelle said to meet up at 9:30pm so yeah I had quite alot of hours spare to spend. I just had a long lounge at Soundcontrol making tunes and all, afterwards I had a nice sushi meal at Wasabi

Afterwards I went to Stockwell to meet up with Michelle and co, they were quite late, I had nothing to do so I quickly took random photos of the tube, one in particular was this shot

Arty? Haha, anyway, Michelle and the gang finally arrived and we went to the venue, it was a pub :O haha. Did sound like one to be honest haha. Michelle brought along Caff as well as her friend Shel and Bucjo (from the museboard). Pleasant girls, Shel in particular said how Michelle mentioned me a lot and said I was a cool guy *nods*, that I am Michelle, that I am haha. We missed a few tracks but still managed to catch them at it, was nice. The band after that (Yunioshi) was really good too so I took some photos of them too :D , typically we’d leave after the gig but I stayed a bit longer with the band and had a chat with Kris and Michelle, was a nice evening, got to know them a bit better and all. I left soon after due to last trains etc.

But yeah, some photos.. during the gig I thought my photos werent sharp enough so I started tweaking the shutter speed at like 1/250, was a silly idea, turns out I had alot of light going on and it was sharp. Damn funny eyes haha

Oh and a disco ball came out of nowhere, was random!

Here’s the photos for Yunioshi, they’re really cute hehe

Chelsea Foundation Art Exhibition

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Today was quite an exciting day, had loads of stuff planned including art exhibitions and gigs. I’ll write the gig in a separate section. But yeah, was invited to an art exhibition that was filled with artwork from foundation students, some weren’t bad, some were pretentious and dire. I have my weird conditions and expectations on something that’s good art, it should either make you think, or wow you by how immense the piece of art work is, having both is grand too haha. But yeah, most of them DID make me think… but in the wrong way, most of the time I kept asking what their logical intervention was for the piece. Some are just blatant day care centre products haha. Art is kind of like a 60 paged report, you should be able to sum everything up in an Executive Summary so you should be able to sum up an idea or thought at a glance, not 20 with the aid of asking the artist or whatever, those who don’t stand up by themselves are merely illustrations or just ideas. But yeah, thats my opinion in art anyway. Skills or something that makes you think (the good kind of think), everything is subjected to different opinions so why not embrace your own one etc.

Here’s some lovely photos I took of them.

Some large shots, only large so you can see the hardcore depth of field haha

This one I dont like, but the photo I do haha.

Advanced Database Systems Exam

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Eurgh databases, I do enjoy them but these lectures and theory work rips the fun out of them! Most of the time I’m more concerned about just making the database. But yeah, this is probably the hardest exam out of the 3 I have, I’ve been “revising” hard for it haha. Taking notes and everything, with other modules I’m able to just take a few ganders at the lecture notes and be fully prepared for the exam (since most of the stuff is already embedded into my brain haha) but this one includes 6 topics (some of which I didn’t have time to attend to since I was either skipping lectures or better yet, I was at them but I was just phasing out during them, thinking about really obscure stuff instead of focusing on what the lecturers saying)

Had my lucky charms today, once again I will be bringing my duck to the exam too! Hopefully not much luck will be used and I can just answer the questions based on what I know rather than lucking it out and writing waffle haha. Once this exam is over I can safely say that my days of university are well and truely over(ish) haha, I do have one more exam left but I’m quite sure I’ll do alright on it. Anyway, less banter, better revise a bit more

Exam DuckUpdate:Exam went pretty well I must say, I was able to answer all the questions confidently and I feel like I’ve done pretty well and all, lots of people finished their course after this exam so they all went to the pub to party (I suggested they’d all head to the job centre and start racking in the dole money haha) but yeah, I still have one more exam to go (not to mention a demonstration to present to my project supervisor) so I’m still a long way to go :( . But yeah, exam = Muy easy.

I got to take the duck into the exam hall and everything too, shame one of the examiners told me off and put my duck on the floor *grr*. I understand no mascots or religious items (actually, I think the rule was, religious items are allowed) but it also says, no mascots that are distracting, I dont think a duck is distracting others, some of the examiners *shakes head* nobody liked her anyway, she kept threatening people who kept talking by writing their name on a report :O haha.

No more reports ever!

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Me running through fountainHanded in the final two reports now! Was quite an anticlimax but nonetheless, I have completed all my reports for the year and will never have to do them again! Feels pretty weird I must say, but definitely in a good way. Anyway, I sorted of celebrated the day by running through some crazy fountain! It was pumping water at a crazy rate and I was crazy enough to run right through all 5 of them!

Needless to say I was drenched silly, I got loads of dirty looks from everyone afterwards since it wasn’t raining and I was dripping wet haha. It was a very fun experience though so it was all good, I just wished it had been a bit more sunny so I could have dried off from the sun and all, but yeah, took a bath immediately so its all good in the end. Hope I dont get a cold :( .

Got 2 more exams left and afterwards I’m immediately going up north to celebrate and all. Woo!

Mobile Business Exam today

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Ducky Got my mobile business exam at 2pm, tis a 2 hour long exam and I’m hoping to use every minute of it like last time. Usually I’d leave the venue around 30 minutes answering everything at break neck speeds haha. But its final year where things really matter so I better take my time answering them, though having said that I better manage my time better! For my ecommerce exam I went a bit ott on the first two questions and sort of gave up on the last one which was worth quite alot of marks and all too!

For luck purposes I will be bringing my little duck to the exam and hopefully I’ll do well. Not really a believer in luck but there are times where you get questions that you know you’re good at and some that you vaguely have an idea of. I should be fine though since I know the topic pretty well. Plus the lecturer is my supervisor and I have a good idea about how he likes his answers and all.

God its weird waking up at 9 to revise, I better start sleeping early now, though I doubt thats going to happen what with the coursework I need to do afterwards *shudders* haha. Anyway, better do some more revision before I head off to the venue.
