Wolf Parade live at Electric Ballroom

Wolf Parade

Tonight I saw Wolf Parade live at the Electric Ballroom in camden. Originally they were playing at Kings College but that got moved to Camden, both are pretty fine venues I hear so it didn’t matter to me much. The gig was jumpy, moshy, exuberant and crazy. I’ll promise I’ll keep this short! I keep saying I will but it always ends up in drivel!

As mentioned on my earlier post, I realised that I had only brought one ticket with me for the gig even though my friend was tagging along. I felt slightly silly but decided to just do what I’ve got to do which is travel back down to my place, pick up ticket (and a wide lens) and head back to Camden where I’ll be meeting Jason. The whole trek gave me some time to listen to a bit more Liam Finn for the next day as well as play some PSP (more on that later no doubt). The whole trip and back took me two hours, but no way am I bummed out about it, it’s so much easier to just accept it then to moan and mope :)

Dag för Dag

Once I’ve met up with Jason we went into the Electric Ballroom and managed to mingle our way to the front (thanks to John and his friend for letting us squeeze in). It was nice inviting Jason to the gig because he hasn’t really seen what I get up during gigs these days (I mean he’s seen me at concerts and gigs years and years ago, but not in photo mode).

Dag för Dag

We had a nice converse and enjoyed Chad VanGaalen and Dag för Dag. I loved Dag för Dag since they were upbeat and posey but didn’t like Chad VanGaalen too much, aside from the banjo I didn’t find his music interesting (sorry folks, sometimes I don’t like bands). I was able to take the DSLR every now and then and do quick snaps at the support band but saved most of it for when Wolf Parade turned up, and when they did, it was awesome.

They started with You are a runner and I am my father’s son. This song instantly got me bopping and dancing to the rhythmic drum beats, I felt that this gig was no doubt going to be a pretty moshy and exciting gig. Next up was Soldier’s Grin which was pretty fun. They didn’t play modern world but was forgiven by playing Shine a light, here’s a video if it in action:

This was the first time I’ve seen them live and never realised that standing in the right gets a better view of both singers (Dan and Spencer). It’s been a while since I’ve been to a gig where actual moshing was involved and boy have I missed it. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling too well and couldn’t jump or dance too much (I felt better after the gig when I bought a bottle of spirte to drink). Not that I needed to dance or jump anyway, we were all pushed up together that I was jumping along with them as they jumped hehe.

They played a nice set and came back for a pretty awesome encore. Initially they were going to cover that Ting Tings song because it was stuck in their heads during sound check but in the end they didn’t (even though we tried cheering them to, booo!). After the show, I left with the setlist (which was written on a paper plate haha) and got home safe and sound ready to upload photos and videos. I’ve kept my photos condensed to make it easier to find the tasty shots so yeah.

Hope you like them, apologies for the not so long review since I really need my sleep for the next few gigs. Apologies for the folks who I didn’t say hi to (mainly you Adam), I knew you were there though, and you looked like you were having lots of fun! :D.
