A splash of October Swimmer

Crazy calendar updates!

Time flies at a ridiculous rate when you’re busy. Already we’re in mid November and getting ready for the start of Christmas, winter coats, bankruptcy, roasted poultry, mind games and the lovely end to a crazy and eventful year. When peering at my Google Calender, I quickly skipped back to the previous month to see what I’ve been up to and boy was it a crazy month, though you’ve probably noticed that already with the sudden abundance of blog posts 😉 Since October was such an amazingly packed month I thought I’d write a big fat summary post of it all, kinda like a catch up post for those who check less frequently or for those who’ve just started reading. So yeah, lets rewind the tape and go back to first of October, 2008, no idea if you can click on all the links but I’ll take my time to link up to EVERYTHING so it all makes sense!

Nobody else would ever learn the secret (with video)

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

“Do you know what people did in the old days when they had secrets they didn’t want to share? They’d climb a mountain, find a tree, carve a hole in it, whisper the secret into the hole and cover it up with mud. That way, nobody else would ever learn the secret”

Whispering a secret into a tree

I’m normally not a secretive person, but there was something in my heart I wanted to let go, and during my visit up north, i visited a place that I felt most comfortable in the world and whispered my secret into the tree. It felt like a confession, something I had done or felt that no one could ever find out. We all possess at least one secret within us, some of them light and not worth keeping whilst some of them are embedded in their hearts as deep as the ocean itself. Whatever they are, consider letting it go to a good old reliable tree. You’ll feel so much better, trust me.

The added bonus of this secret was that I actually wrote a secret inside the tree, hoping that someone would one day read it. They would have no idea what it meant, or have no idea who I am, what I look like, or why I wrote that secret. Having that feeling behind the back of your head was pretty neat.

Video Update: 8 October 2008

Thought I’d update and bump this baby up because I managed to find a video of the scene in “In the mood for love”. Hopefully it will give you an idea of how I felt when I actually did the thing, probably with less sad string music. Enjoy the video!

Hope this post was inspiring for you and will encourage you to do something silly today.
Set your mind free!
(cheesy I know, but it was that or an anticlimax).

Sitting at the cafe, drinking a frappe

Sitting at the cafe, drinking a frappe

One day I was sitting at a coffee shop with someone when I suddenly asked them:

“you know how you goto school so you can study and get to college, and once you’re in college, you study hard so you get to university, and once you’re in university, you study hard so you can get a job… well now that I have a job what do I do now?”

They didn’t really know how to answer that. What do you do?

What do you want to do with your life?

The predefined goals and dates are no longer there, you become a blank canvas. The fact is, you are finally free to actually do whatever you want, the conventional education path is no longer there to guide you and it’s all there for you to build, a future you can build on your own, customise and sprinkle glitter over the freshy PVA glue’d surface, you are at the cliché metaphorical crossroads and it’s up to you to pick the right path.

Anyway, once you start working, pretty much most of your life will be dedicated in working and making money to survive, live and indulge in all kinds of pasttimes, activities and hedonistic tasks. But since there’s SO much to do in this world, perhaps it’s a good idea to keep track of the things you want to do, the goals you want to achieve, the things you want to see, travel and do. In comes the lovely site called 43things.

No to shopping bags

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Everytime I come back home from shopping I realise that I return with a handful of excess shopping bags, these are usually thrown away or put into bad used since I simply have nowhere to put them. I’ve noticed lately that HMV now asks you whether you’d like a bag or not instead of handing you a bag in ensure you’re only getting it if you actually need it. I think the idea is awesome and I’ve started to make sure that I’m saying no when it’s appropriate. So yeah, though this would be a good goal to achieve. Nothing to measure it by really but I suppose I’ll review this in 6 months time and see whether or not I’ve reduced the number of shopping bags I’ve picked up from my room.

I would advise you all to do the same since it does do a little good for the planet, plus people can see what epic films you are getting :p. I’ll think of some more environmental friendly projects to do since I do get a nicer feeling everytime I say no to shopping bags.

Paris to do list

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Paris I suppose with a trip to Paris it deserves a lovely to do list before I head off. Don’t want to forget anything since I hardly get to holiday much. If you can think of more things to add or places you’d recommend feel free to comment, especially those native people 🙂 (though it’s a bit late :()

Anyhow, here’s a list of things I need to bring/pack/buy:

Here are places to go and things to do, feel free to suggest anything, Alice won’t read this hehe:

Update

Well, I actually did everything I put on the list so that’s pretty epic 🙂

Use quidco more often

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Everytime I visit quidco.co.uk I go “doh”. It’s an awesome site for saving some money with the whole affiliate incentive and I feel like I’m wasting the opportunity when I’ve realised I’ve not been using it to purchase stuff on play.com or whatever. So yeah, as a new 43thing, I’m hopefully going to get this damn thing sorted!

But yeah, already I’ve managed to preorder final fantasy 7 crisis core via play.com with quidco so woo!

New York and England

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

One of the main topics of discussion when talking about New York at the office with the New York folk is talking about what differences New York has over ye olde London. Most of them are well known but it’s a lot cooler when you experience it first hand, anyway here’s the list of things I’ve noticed when I’m in New York… and ONLY things I’ve noticed:
