One day I was sitting at a coffee shop with someone when I suddenly asked them:
“you know how you goto school so you can study and get to college, and once you’re in college, you study hard so you get to university, and once you’re in university, you study hard so you can get a job… well now that I have a job what do I do now?”
They didn’t really know how to answer that. What do you do?
What do you want to do with your life?
The predefined goals and dates are no longer there, you become a blank canvas. The fact is, you are finally free to actually do whatever you want, the conventional education path is no longer there to guide you and it’s all there for you to build, a future you can build on your own, customise and sprinkle glitter over the freshy PVA glue’d surface, you are at the cliché metaphorical crossroads and it’s up to you to pick the right path.
Anyway, once you start working, pretty much most of your life will be dedicated in working and making money to survive, live and indulge in all kinds of pasttimes, activities and hedonistic tasks. But since there’s SO much to do in this world, perhaps it’s a good idea to keep track of the things you want to do, the goals you want to achieve, the things you want to see, travel and do. In comes the lovely site called 43things.
43 things is a lovely social goal setting tool for you to dump all your goals and things you want to do with your life. I’ve used it for over a year and it has helped me clarify what I’ve once set out to achieve. Not only will it help you keep track of your goals (occasionally sending you reminders asking you whether you’ve set to do what you’ve achieved) you are able to explore the things other people are doing. You can become inspired on another person’s goal and decide you want to do that too, you’ll also be surprised at the amount of things people want to do and have in common (eg 21,000 people want to “write a book“). Of course don’t feel you have to conform to what everyone’s doing, you can obviously make your own goals that are personal to you (such as learning how to play the overture to Phantom of the Opera or whispering a secret into a tree). It’s your playground of dreams (that sounds so wrong, I do apologise).
So yeah, do create an account and start defining your goals and things you want to do in your life., and if you already have an account, great! Feel free to add me as a contact and if any of my goals inspire you, don’t hesitate to give them a go I tend to keep them “goal” orientated rather than a general to do list, each task should really have a significance in them, so remembering to buy the milk isn’t really a goal unless you live in a world without milk.
One of my main goals is to become a goal orientated person so I made sure I had the ubiquitous (well not yet but it will be) task of listing 43 things on 43 things. So yeah, anything quirky will do. Feel free to comment on your random goals you would like to share or your profile if you already have one and we can all share it and stuff.
