320 gigalobytes of fun!

New 320gb Harddrive

mmmm 320 gigalo bytes

Ickle post, I bought myself a lovely 320gb 2.5inch hard drive to replace my PS3’s harddrive. I wanted to fit a lot of TV shows, photos and videos on my ps3 and felt my PS3 is really struggling with the capacity.  It was bugging me, if I wanted to watch a film or whatnot I would have to copy it into a CF or SD card and actually play the thing on the flash card instead of the HDD since it was brimming with videos and whatnot. Games were also starting to pile up so I thought it was best to start investing in a bigger hard drive for my multimedia needs. I bought the badboy from play.com and it arrived pretty promptly at the office. Everything was fine and dandy until I started trying to upgrade the damn HDD. After removing all my music from my ipod to backup my PS3 I was stuck trying to unscrew the damn screws that was securing the HDD to the caddy. I pretty much stripped all 4 screws, leaving the thing stuck. Crapsticks. A lot of searching for alternative screwdrivers was involved and I ended up staying up till 4am finding screwdrivers until I gave up, I resorted in synching my ipod with a fixed playlist of music since my backup stuff were still in the ipod and I didn’t have enough room to store all my music (which was why I was stubborn enough to go searching for screwdrivers in the middle of the night because I wanted to have my music back). I went to sleep, hoping I will be able to solve this damn mess.

An abundance of cosplay and free hugs

Final Fantasy cosplay: Zorn and Thorn

Lorn and Thorn from Final Fantasy 9

I thought I’d post this in light of Halloween since it sort of kinda makes sense… I dunno, I’m not really into Halloween any but whatever haha.

After seeing quite a fair few number of people dressed up as some of my favorite video game characters at the Video Games Live 2008 concert, I decided that I wanted to do this again! During the concert they had mentioned as part of the London Games Festival 2008, there will be a London MCM Expo which will be the host venue for hundreds and perhaps thousands of cosplay folk, all of whom are dressing up as characters from video games, anime characters, cult films and other sci fi and geeky stuff you can think of. Embracing my still warm geekiness after the gig, I decided that this event was one I had to venture into. So yes, sit back and enjoy the freak geek show!

Video Games Live 08 = Geeky music heaven

Video Games Live 2008

Let’s step away from the crazy indie music scene and into a very small but vibrant music scene. This is for the video game geeks who spent quite a large proportion of their childhood playing video games, because, you know; getting someone from the opposite sex was just too easy :P*. As most of you should hopefully know, video games isn’t just mindless entertainment, there are some games which dive deeper than mere zombie killing or princess saving, some games (such as Final Fantasy) include very awesome storylines as well as in depth characters. The music side of it all does pretty well too, some (I’ll say some, because some games have sucky annoying tunes) of which aren’t just mindless catchy riffs but full on orchestrated pieces that build up a grandular (yup thats a word, honest haha) experience for the gamer. This is where Video Games Live 2008 comes in, a concert for reliving your past time gaming memories by listening to the songs we love and will always remember.
* = yup, just toooooo damn easy haha

More site changes: cooler sidebar

crazybobbles.org: site redesign

Slightly trippy seeing a screenshot of the site you're seeing (if that even makes sense)

Last night I spent the evening coding like no tomorrow till 4am (hence no tomorrow). I’ve revamped my sidebar menu to allow a sample shot section, a better introduction to my blog and a fancy flickr bar showing the latest 15 photos I’ve taken on the side, this was part of my site fattening procedure where I screwed all 800×600 users and move to the 960px territory.

The site will be more flickr integrated than ever (don’t know what i’d do without it!). Of course the quality of posts will improve with time as well as more features here and there being implemented, so yeah, if you’re a previous visitor, hope you like, if you’re new, hope you like! Please leave comments on your thoughts and opinions on the site redesign, since the code hasn’t settled in just yet so I can still do additional tweaks to it.

Finally a new lens to shoot in wide!

My new lens

Say hello to my lovely Canon 28mm F1.8 USM lens! A wide prime lens I will be using to shoot wider shots at gigs and whatnot. This is a lovely addition to my camera gear and will hopefully be used quite a lot in future gigs (including this one).

Awesome!

Seriously, I can’t stop giggling at the office! This reminds me of the time when I couldn’t stop giggling when an interviewee said “broadband penetration”. Interviewers should never be giggling when the interviewee is saying something serious. I was also laughing at this images.

Blog updates, more flickr integration

Flickr integration, thanks to the lovely Flickr Photo Album Plugin

Flickr integration, thanks to the lovely Flickr Photo Album Plugin

Thought I’d update you on some new features here and there on the blog, nothing worth talking about but you know, if I keep talking about gigs you’d think I’m not actually a geek! There’s still lots of backend stuff that I occasionally do out of curiosity and for coding pleasures (mmm code). Today I’ve been doing a bit of plugin shopping and downloaded/installed two useful plugins, a flickr photo album plugin and a google site map plugin. The latter is mainly used for informing google and other search engines of newly updated posts and whatnot, I’m not really seeing any immediate benefit from it but I hear it’s useful *shrugs*, I kinda got bored reading it’s use on wikipedia (and I find it weird how my readers are actually reading this for me if they dare click on the wikipedia article).

800×600 users can goto hell!

A lovely pie chart showing the resolutions used by crazybobbles.org visitors

A lovely pie chart showing the resolutions used by crazybobbles.org visitors

Haha sorry 800×600, i still love you and everything but I thought this was quite a punchy title for a post and all. Right, more geeky blog changes. Kinda wished I wrote this with the other one but hey. When coding sites and blogs we make sure everyone can read it nicely and easily. If you look at most blogs and sites their width is about 760px or so. Reason being is that this means users with 800×600 resolutions can view the page without too much hasslehoff in terms of horizontally scrolling the page in order to view the content. Most people have stuck with this and that was all fine and dandy. But it also meant that most webmasters are restricted to damn 800px wide websites in order to conform. Content usually should be minimal but sometimes it’s just annoying knowing you can’t benefit from the extra width, so I’ve decided that I’m more or less going to screw the 800×600 users and make a w i d e r site.

Upon more research I’ve also looked at my stats to see what kind of resolutions you guys have and the results are quite interesting, only 1.12% of folks visiting my site have the oldskool 800×600. So really I’m not killing off too many users with prehistoric monitors. So what triggered the decision? Well, one of the biggest examples of sites that are doing this is good old www.facebook.com, notice that the newer site is actually wider now? This is so that they can fit more status/wall update goodness into your page (as well as ads) at the expense of those poor 800×600. Expect the update to happen very soon, I need to create new background images for the header (just wider, not killing off katamari).
