Hopefully it’s not too late, 33 days ago I went to see a band called Shout out Louds, they’re from Sweden (sudden influx of Swedish bands I know). I’m never good at explaining what a band is like (without having to say they’re like x and y) so check last.fm for a cooler explanation (not to mention I’m only talking about the gig really, and hopefully getting you folks to give them a listen and buy their music).
They were playing at 229 club in Great Portland Street (and I can assure you, the street it definitely great!…. for a while anyway). I arrived there after work and had a lovely Starbucks Blueberry cheesecake since the venue wasn’t open just yet. I like starbucks cheesecake, its so rich and creamy After that ever so random trip to Starbucks (you can always find one if you follow Google Maps your heart) I returned to the venue to do some boring queuing up, most likely reading a book (Northern Lights I think) to past time. Once in the venue I was finding an area with light to continue the reading, the place was pretty huge, not to mention there were two venues, this event was holding two gigs simultaneously which you had access to, the other venue was a bit shit and small though so I stayed on the main venue.
The support bands were alright, but when you don’t know any of their songs it’s hard to like them unfortunately, it’s always so hard winning a crowd who’ve never heard you before. This case holds stronger for me since I tend to listen to music in my own accord, when someone forces me to listen to a band I do the exact opposite. So if you don’t check them out after reading this, I don’t blame you, just have it at the back of your head to one day discover and listen to yourself But that’s another story for another time. Let’s talk more about shout out louds.
I listened to the first album but sadly it didn’t really click, not sure why, but after listening to their latest album Our Ill Wills, I started to really love them, and that transcended to liking the first album too (ie you appreciate it more?!?! I dunno). It had a really nice continental feel and songs such as Impossible or South America really stood out as some chillaxing music, but the favourites are Tonight I have to Leave it and Time Left for Love.
“So I heard it’s no good to run, it feels so much better now that it’s done”
Hopefully this video of them playing Tonight I have to leave it will convince you (if not then watch it again until you like it :P). I didn’t film this, it was from some random Swedish festival and I believe the next act after them were… Evanessence (where that emo chick moans during the song and then some dude goes “SAAAAAAVE ME” haha (perhaps he was crying for help since he’s trapped in this band?)). Anyway that’s just banter to make sure the right image floats to the right and doesnt overlap with the video, here’s the video :p (if you liked that then check this one too)
Another cute thing I noticed during the gig was the fact that the band had to do all the roadie stuff hehe. It’s always cute when you see them at the stage before the show, usually they’re wearing different clothes (because there actually is such a thing as stage clothes, even if it’s just a shirt and some crazy white pants). The guitarist was out most of the time doing the soundcheck, he didn’t looked too happy having to sort all the gear up hehe. Anyway, after the sound and light checks, they were on.
“But i dont remember playing the piano on your parents living”
The gig was amazing, though they didn’t have people doing the string arrangements live it was nonetheless awesome. I really enjoyed the gig, songs that stood out were once again the songs I mentioned earlier on their latest album. Tonight I have to leave it was more fun when Adam (the singer) had the drum out and started going nuts on it. So yeah, here’s some lovely photos of them. Hopefully you’ll like the band and see them live if they ever play again.
[...] it with work, but it will hopefully be good for my stamina (and bad for my ears). This all started around September (Shout out Louds gig was the first) and I definitely feel the strain of going to a lot of gigs, but [...]
